What does trait theory argue?
Personality characteristics are innate therefore personality is stable and predictable.
What does Eysenck argue?
Introverted/Extroverted
Neurotic (changeable)/Stable (predictable)
Most people are not found at the extremes of the two dimensions but tend to come somewhere in the middle.

What is Girdano’s ‘Narrow Band Approach’?
Type A : lack patience, tolerance and high levels of personal anxiety
OR
Type B : relaxed, more tolerant and low personal anxiety levels
What is Social Learning Theory?
Characteristics learned rather than pre-determined
Imitate ‘significant others’ of a high status
Influenced by other’s behaviour
What is interactionist theory?
B= f ( P x E )
f= a combination of innate characteristics and environment
Combination of two other theories
What is Hollander’s theory?
3 layers
1- psychological core/ innate/ doesn’t change
2- typical responses/ everyday tasks
3- role related behaviour/ when put in different/unexpected/stressful environment
What is the credulous approach?
People who believe there’s a connection between personality, participation and sport
What is the skeptical approach?
People who believe there’s no connection
