what is the interactionist theory of personality
takes in to account of trait theory and also situational theory
strengths of interactionist theory
- more realistic that trait theory as it takes into account of environmental factors that can trigger inherited traits
- explains why people in the same environment act differently
evaluate trait learning theories as personality formation
+ trait theory- if this theory is correct it can predict personality
+ trait theory- there is some evidence that personality is influenced by genetics such as aggression and trait anxiety.
- trait theory- less realistic as doesn’t account for the environmental effect on our personality
- trait theory- if personality is defined by genetics then it doesn’t take into account the influence of free will and is too deterministic
- trait theory- identical twins grown up in different environments don’t display the same characteristics
evaluate social learning theories as personality formation
+ the bobo doll study supports the social learning theory adding validity
+ it also shows behaviour being learnt from copying role models such as parents.
- may be considered as too simplistic as doesn’t take into account our inherited traits
- children/ siblings bought up in the same way don’t always display the same personality
how does the presence of an audience affect an extrovert
extroverts need more stimulation than introverts to become aroused so the presence of an audience will lead him to his optimal level of arousal and so the audience wll facilitate his perfomance.
