Q

What is thermodynamics? Related to the book etc

A
  • thermodynamics is foundation for, power plants, chemical reactions, refrigerators, and many more important concepts that the world we live in today relies on
  • in the book on einsteins laws it foccused on the discovery of the first 2 laws of thermodynamics with reference to the steam engine as it was an the only significant mechanical source of power was the steam engine. Engineers eventually improved it, but Sen concentrates on the scientists who explained it.

Q

What is the precipitation of salts

A

-Its when the ionised salts in the seawater precipitate and then can no longer fit through the membrane. damages the membrane because its too big.
-can therefore causue problems as it increases cost and .

Q

what did i learn from the book what did lead me on to do?

A
  • paul sens book intrested me on the significance of thermodynamics and also really helped me top - trtuly understand the level of work scientists put in creating a new found respect and admiration for intellectuals which also made me hungry to learn more and i read some more books eg even in fields such as astrophysics and maths.

Q

Cost of desalination how its reduced with graphene membranes?

A

-Reverse osmosis used to be an expensive option. However, the introduction of graphene membranes has reduced the cost drastically
-these membranes last for a longer period, preventing frequent
membrane replacement
-consumers can get access to clean along with reduced water bills.

Q

What I did my podcast on in the application of chemistry?

A
  • I was struck between links in physics and chemistry we answered some abstract questions such as why the electrons don’t crash into the nucleus of an atom and this is due to the force of attraction from the charged particles is just strong enough to give the necessary centripetal force and keep it in circular motion and the electrons are in shells of discrete energy levels

LIINE IN SAUDI WHAT IS A ansd the ramifications?

A

-The Line is a smart, linear city under construction in Saudi Arabia in Neom, Tabuk Province, which is designed to have no cars, streets or carbon emissions. The 170-kilometre—long city is part of Saudi Vision 2030 project, which Saudi Arabia claims will create -460,000 jobs and add $48 billion to the country’s GDP
-Not paying for expenses like car insurance, fuel and parking will mean higher disposable incomes for citizens which in the current cost of living system seems very favourable

Research acquired at CERN

A

Toured antimatter factory extremely fortunate to be able to
How in creation of antimatter in the annihaliation the penning trap on its radial axis with its magnetic fields conserve the charge and traps the antimatter formed and can be proved of its creation in its own annihilation

4 distinct forces ? acc 3 eintsteins derscription of gravity?

A

-1 electro magnetic 2 is strong nuclear and 3 is weak nuclear force.
gravity
-Einstein argued that gravity isn’t a force at all. He described it as a curvature of time and space caused by mass and energy. from the general relativity theory.

Q

whats higgs field ? link to neutrino no mass

A

-Higgs field is what gives mass to all particles In the universe
-Higgs Boson is a wave in that higgs field
-stronger a particle interacts with Higgs field more mass it gets from it
-neutrinos and photons don’t really interact so no mass
-higgs has a spin of 0
- still loads of qs after discovery links to how chemical eng is lifetime learning

Q

whats dark matter only an idea/ theory

A

-Unlike normal matter, dark matter does not interact with the electromagnetic force.
-This means it does not absorb, reflect or emit light, making it extremely hard to spot.
- researchers have been able to infer the existence of dark matter only from the gravitational effect it seems to have on visible matter
and it doesn’t work with the maths showing inconsistency
-Dark matter seems to outweigh visible matter roughly six to one, making up about 27% of the universe.
- complete derivation from the maths the graph(serai)

Q

trip to CERN about UN also visited?

A

-un conferencing also fortunate to visit in headquarters from being an experienced Model um student great to be there learnt a lot from bilinguals intrested how discussion on huge topics works good to see converse arguments showing me that there’s always a flip ways to arguments so always discuss all avenues in any process

17
Q

improtance of the balance between function and cost?
and how that is what engineering is? (importnace of money)

A

I understand engineering is run around cost and the application of any process are reliant on cost cause if it’s too expensive no matter how good it is to implement if too costly no one gonna use
Engineers jobs are to lower cost as much as possible as innovation and energy efficency are being pushed to the limits with current increasing population

18
Q

What is the first law of thermodynamics? link to book and Chemical eng motivation

A

Conservation of energy
Only be transferred not created or destroyed

19
Q

State second law thermodynamics? link to book?

A

Universe as an isolated system the entropy is constantly increasing
And therefore change in entropy is always positive

20
Q

Explain how the steam engine works and relation to conservation of energy in book?

A

-heat engine performs mechanical work using steam its working force
-therefore produced by steam pressure pushes a piston back and forth inside a cylinder and said Carnot made this much more efficient with increasing temperature difference etc heat from a hot resovoir to a cold one.

21
Q

What were chemical engineers doing at cern that inspired me?

A
  • Cern learnt x10 more engineers than scientists
  • working with liquid helium and liquid nitrogen
-Helium excellent refrigerant for cooling and stabilising the lhcs superconductor systems
