Who can become a classified worker?
Employee over 18 years
Who must keep records of the personal dosimetry records?
The approved dosimetry service (ADS), recognised by the HSE
The EMPLOYER is responsible for putting arrangements for personal monitoring in place
Are there any particular arrangements required for classified outside workers?
They require a pass book
Dose entries recorded by employer who is responsible for controlled areas
In Radiology, what level of annual WHOLE BODY DOSE would you expect and why?
M Monthly, <0.2 mSv per anum
Staff are not regulalry exposed to ionising radiation when correct protocols are followed and dose restirction measures are followed
In Nuclear Medicine, what is the expected annual WHOLE BODY dose?
0.5-1 mSv, < 2 mSv
Where would you expect to find the dose levels that would trigger an investigation?
The Local Rules
What changes to personal dosimetry are in place for pregnant staff?
On decleration of the pregnancy IN WRITING, 1 mSv to foetus applied for REMAINDER of DECLARED TERM at work
Why do we apply the non-classified investigation levels to classified staff in NM/PET Imaging?
They are classified on risk of exceeding a dose limit to skin/extremity from contamination and/or needle stick
Are there any groups of classified staff where Higher investigation levels are applied?
Radiopharmacy are classified on routine extremity/skin dose
25 mSv/month and 250 mSv/annum extermity NHST investiagtion levels
What are the dose limits for members of the public/other persons category?
1 mSv Estimated whole body dose
15 mSv Equivalent dose to the eye
50 mSv Equivalent dose to skin or extremity
0.3 mSv/annum from any single source
When would you need to notify HSE of dosimetry from an accident?
If it exceeds 6 mSv whole body, 150 mSv skin/extremity, 15 mSv to the eye from a SINGLE ACCIDENT
