PERSONAL COMPUTER DISASSEMBLY Flashcards
What is PC Disasembly?
The means of removing the components inside the chassis, it is also the act of maintaining cleanliness of the component of the computer, both external and internal.
Reasons for Computer Disassembly
- To check if the components are properly placed.
- To help determine a problem.
- To replace a part.
- To take parts and use them in another device
- Take parts and sell them individually.
- To maintain cleanliness of the component.
Before starting computer disassembly, what is it that you need to make sure?
That you have the needed tools with you and to follow the Occupational Health and Safety Procedure.

Remove the Motherboard
Elaborate Computer Disasembly Step 1
Step 1: Unplug all wires and cables
This includes; Power cord, VGA Cable, Ethernet Cable, Mouse, Keyboard, etc.
Just unplug all the cables for safety purposes. Now that your computer is fully unplugged move your PC to a clean workplace.
Elaborate Step 2 Computer Disassembly
Step 2: Remove or open the outer shell/case
First, unscrew the four screws at the back of the computer. On most computer case, there will be large knobs/screws that can he unscrewed using your hand or by a screwdriver on the back-right side of the computer, unlock the cover by sliding the knob, then slide the cover to finally open the case.
Elaborate Step 3 in Computer Disassembly
Step 3: Remove System Fan
You need to unplug the fan from the motherboard. You can find the fan, it is labeled as “SYS_FAN1” fan from the outside.
You will be able to now lift the fan out of the PC.
Elaborate Step 4 Computer Disassembly
Step 4: Remove CPU Fan
The CPU fan is located right on top of the CPU heat sink, which is a large piece of metal with pins on top
Just follow the wires and you can easily find it.
To remove the fan from heat sink, you need to remove the four screws securing it in place.
Elaborate Step 5 computer disassembly
Step 5: Remove the Power Supply Unit
You need to unplug every wire coming from the power supply.
You should disconnect the motherboard (very large connector and portable hard drive slot power).
Once everything is unplugged, unscrew the four screws holding the power supply from the outside and lift it out.
Elaborate Step 6 computer disassembly
Step 6: Remove the CD/DVD Drive
First, unplug the SATA cable and power cable found at the back of the drive. Then, pull-out the tab securing the drive in place, then push it out from the inside.
Elaborate Step 7 computer disassembly
Step 7: Remove Hard Disk Drives/Solid State Drive
You need to unplug the connector at the back of the slot, and then unplug the other end from the motherboard. Next is you need unplug the SATA cable from the motherboard and hard drive.
The portable HDD/SSD slot is secured the same way the CD/DVD drive is with a tab. Pull out the tab, then slide the slot out. to remove the HDD/SSD from the side of the slot, unscrew the four screws securing it in place. You must be careful not to to drop the HDD and SSD because it is very delicate.
Elaborate Step 8 computer disassembly
Step 8: Remove RAM
To remove the RAM, you need to push down both tabs holding the RAM in place which are bested at both ends of the component.
Elaborate Step 9 computer disassembly
Step 9: Remove the motherboard
The motherboard has seve screws holding it to frame wich are indicated by large white circles and then lift the motherboard out of the frame.
