Class?
group of people thought to have common features or characteristics. Reflects stratification of society (Karl Marx origin)criteria used to decide grouping. Common ones include level of wealth, edu and employment
Status?
standing allocated by society. May be allocated differently depending upon criteria.
Ethnicity?
perception that ppl’s reference to their common ancestry/cultural experience give them sense of identity. ppl’s origin basis of identity.
family?
definition constantly changing
identity?
understanding who you are and why that person can involve sense of social, cultural/ethnic identity.
kinship?
links of biological or marriage that bind ppl together.
life stage?
stages of life one expected to move through, infancy, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and late adulthood.
rites of passage?
events recognised at either personal or social level that imply an accepted change of status. social marking point, celebrating transition from one life stage to another.
self?
way you perceive yourself to be
social construct?
way society gives meaning to a concept or term
rights?
things society regards as your entitlement
responsibilities?
actions expected of a full member of any society
socialisation?
way in which you learn to become accepted member of society.
