GRAPHIC NOVEL VS COMICS
Graphic novel: is a collection of comics with a log single story with chapter like a novel.
Comics: a form of sequential art with both images and words in juxtaposition, balance of images and words. Usually small stories.
COMICS VS PICTURE BOOKS
Differences
Comics: a lot of movement in time within a single page.
Picture books: tends to unfold over many pages.
Comics: rely on juxtaposition between pictorial and other images .
Picture books: rely on juxtaposition between text and images. ( words change the pictures, pictures change words)
Comics: gutter between panels enlist the readers imagination to create closure
Picture books: turning of the page creates the act of closure. Gutter is the space in the middle connecting two spreads

Differences

is one frame in a comic book page. Panels are put together to tell a story in a sequential order.

different shapes, showing the conversations.

appear in a box, at the top or bottom of the panel( location, time, voice of the narrator)

black and white space between the panels

refers to the work the reader has to do to fill up the gap between panels

Post colonialism
Period following colonialism. The effect of colonialism upon cultures, peoples and places. Idea of an ongoing impact of colonialism on culture, so we have to be careful not to marginalize or to think that everyone is the same in a particular culture.
Orientalism:
refers to the justification for colonialism E.g Orientals : lazy, irrational, uncivilized, crude. Europeans: active, rational, civilized, sophisticated.
