What is Tendinosis?
Tiny tears in the tendon with no significant inflammation
What is Peroneal and TIbialis Posterior Tendinopathy?
A chronic condition whereby there is irritation to one or both peroneal tendons with subsequent degeneration and inflammation.
What causes Peroneal Tendinopathy?
- Repetitive overuse injuries
- Trauma to the ankle such as a sudden twisting of the ankle or foot
- Overstretching the foot
Clinical Presentation of Peroneal Tendinopathy?
Pain
Tenderness
Swelling along the bottom of the foot or side of the ankle
May be weakening or instability in the foot or ankle.
What causes Tibialis Posterior Tendinopathy ?
- Overuse
- Poor blood supply to the tendon
- Biomechanics that cause degeneration of the tendon, such as over pronation of the foot
Who is Tibialis Posterior Tendinopathy common in?
- women
- people over the age of 40
What are some risk factors of Tibialis Posterior Tendinopathy?
Flat feet (pes planus) Obesity Diabetes High blood pressure Previous surgery or trauma Local steroid injections
Tibialis posterior tendinopathy clinical presentation :
Pain and swelling near the arch of the foot and on the inside of the ankle and when standing on the ball of the foot or if the foot is flexed
Pain that increases with activity
Tiredness in the foot after little activity
Flattening of the arch of the foot and pronation
Cant push off well when running
