First Five Year Plan
1946-1951- He diversifies the economy, removes foreign control, creates nationalism, the central bank, merchant marines, public utilities, health care, education, creates jobs, improves education, and growth in industries. However, inflation increased, wages fall, and in the end there is 0% growth.
Second Five Year Plan
1952-1955- He allows US investment, inflation drops, overseas investments increase, trade and deficit is reduced, and wages are boosted. However, production levels stall, there are demonstrations against those who attack the government, failure to generate the revenue required for further industrial development.
Social Changes
Increased investment in healthcare, expanded education, increased minimum wages, and pension plans, and less working hours.
Relationship with the Church
Equal rights were granted to illegitimate children, divorce and prostitution was legalized, no more religious education, no more church tax exemptions, religious protests are banned, and there is separation of church and state. The Church feels attacked and this becomes a rallying point for his opponents.
Eva Peron
Eva Peron Foundation: millions to scholarships schools, hospitals, orphanages, healthcare available to all, women voting, women go to school, and women can work in the government.
National Liberating Alliance
1952- While there were no lower wages, there was intimidation, exile. and imprisonment for his opponents. Business leaders joined his opponents and he lost the support of the military.
Overthrow
September 1955- Peronist Party survived and he had a brief return to power in 1973.
