A

Shared center lanes are reserved for making left turns and can be used by vehicles traveling the either direction. Marked on the pavement, left turn arrows for traffic in one direction alternate with left turn arrows for traffic approaching from the opposing direction. These lanes are marked on each side by solid yellow and dashed yellow lines. In Arkansas it is permissible for a vehicle making a left turn from a intersecting street or driveway to utilize a center left turn lane as part of the maneuver to fain access or merge into traffic lanes, except that it is not permissible to use the center left turn lane as an acceleration lane.

35
Q

What are crosswalks and stop lanes?

A

When required to stop because of a sign or signal, a driver must stop before the vehicle reaches the stop line, or if there is one, a crosswalk. Crosswalks define the area where pedestrians are to cross the roadway. a driver must yield to pedestrians in or about to enter a crosswalk. Not all crosswalks are marked. Be alert for pedestrians when crossing intersections that do not have defined crosswalks.

36
Q

What are the general driving rules?

A

Never back a vehicle in any travel lane. Never stop in travel lanes for any reason. On a road with three or more lanes traveling in the same direction, remain in the right lane except to pass. If there is considerable merging traffic, use the center lane. Unless directed to do so by a police officer never drive on the shoulder of the road.

37
Q

When and where should you pass?

A

On multi lane roads, the left most lane is intended to be used to pass slower vehicles. Never pass on the shoulder, whither it is paved or not. Other drivers will never expect you to be there and may pull off the road without looking.

38
Q

What is good turning etiquette?

A

Where there are no signs or lane marking to control turning, a driver should turn from the lane that is closest to the direction of travel and turn into the lane closest to the lane from which the turn is initiated. When making turns, go from one lane to the other as directly as possible without crossing lane lines or interfering with traffic. Once a turn has been completed, a change of lanes can begin.
