Q

How is MTA used to create an apical barrier?

A
  • MTA placed at apex, create a 4-5mm apical plug
  • Check placement radiogrpahically
  • Remainder of the canal filled with MTA or backfilled with GP at a subsequent appoinment to allow inital MTA to set

Q

What alternative material to MTA is also used for endodontic treatment of immature teeth?

A

Calcium hydroxide
- Injecteable Ca(OH)2
- Non-setting calcium hydroxide paste can be placed 1mm of the radiographic apex
- Once apical barrier is achieved, GP with sealer is used to obturate the canal

Q

Why is non-setting calcium hydroxide an ideal material?
