Permanent Trauma: Root treating non-vital immature incisors Flashcards
1
Q
What material can be used to create a hard apical barrier?
A
Mineral trioxide aggregate
2
Q
How is MTA used to create an apical barrier?
A
- MTA placed at apex, create a 4-5mm apical plug
- Check placement radiogrpahically
- Remainder of the canal filled with MTA or backfilled with GP at a subsequent appoinment to allow inital MTA to set
3
Q
What alternative material to MTA is also used for endodontic treatment of immature teeth?
A
Calcium hydroxide
- Injecteable Ca(OH)2
- Non-setting calcium hydroxide paste can be placed 1mm of the radiographic apex
- Once apical barrier is achieved, GP with sealer is used to obturate the canal
4
Q
Why is non-setting calcium hydroxide an ideal material?
A
- Disinfects the canal
- Induces calcification of the apical tissue
