peritoneal formations Flashcards
What is a mesentery?
A double layer of peritoneum that occurs as a result of the invagination of the peritoneum by an organ.
What does the mesentery allow for?
communication of an organ and the body wall
Attaches the viscera to the body wall.
a core of connective tissue containing blood, lymphatics, and nerves.
What does a mesentery constitute?
Continuity of the visceral and parietal peritoneum.
What is the small intestine mesentery?
mesentery for the small intestine
other parts of small intestine may have their own mesentery
What is a fusion fascia?
layers of the peritoneum that are now fused and contain the vessels for that organ
What is the omentum?
double fold of the peritoneum that passes from the stomach and proximal duodenum to adjacent organs
What is the greater omentum?
four layered fold that hangs from the greater curvature of the stomach and proximal duodenum and attaches to the transverse colon and its mesentery
largest peritoneal fold
What is the lesser omentum?
Double-layered entity suspended between the lesser curvature of the stomach and the proximal part of the duodenum to the liver
Forms anterior surface of the lesser sac.
What can the lesser omentum be divided into ?
Can be divided into 2 ligaments hepatogastric (stomach)
hepatoduodenal (duodenum)
What is the lesser omentum derived from?
Derived from ventral mesogastrium
What is found in the hepatogastric ligament?
right and left gastric vessels,
branches of the vagus,
lymph nodes.
stomach is also connected to the gastrophrenic/gastrosplenic/gastrocolic
what is found in the hepatodudoneal ligament?
portal vein, common bile duct, hepatic artery, portocaval lymph nodes, lymphatics, hepatic plexus.
What is a peritoneal ligament?
double layer peritoneum that connects an organ to another organ or to body wall
What are the peritoneal ligaments of the liver?
falciform ligament
hepatigastric ligament
hepatoduadenal ligament
What is peritoneum fold?
Reflections of the peritoneum that have more or less sharp borders.
