hx of atherosclerosis:
known for affecting:
- coronary arteries
- aorta
- carotid arteries
- peripheral arteries: predominantly legs and feet
- renal arteries
General Inspection:
- Inspect upper and lower extremities
- inspect arms
- inspect legs
Assess each pulse for:
- rhythm
- contour
- amplitude
- symmetry
- variations from beat to beat
- presence from thrills
Carotid pulse w/ delayed response:
suggests aortic stenosis
Carotid pulse w/ bounding response:
suggests aortic insufficiency
Carotid pulse w/ weak and thready:
suggests cardiogenic shock
Carotid pulse w/ bounding response: thrill
MC atherosclerosis
