Peripheral Nervous System Lecture 2 Flashcards
1
Q
Cervical part:
A
Crunchy breakfast (cereal) at 7 am ➞ cervical vertebrae
1. There are 8 cervical spinal nerves. (One comes from occipital)
2. Cervical enlargement. (Goes down to arms and legs): contains neurons that innervate the upper limbs
2
Q
thoracic part:
A
Tasty lunch at 12pm (12 Thoracic vertebrae)
1. 12 thoracic nerves (&vertebrae)
Thoracic nerves ➞ innervate the chest
3
Q
Lumbar part:
A
- 5 Lumbar nerves. (5pm ➞light dinner)
- Lumbosacral enlargement: contains neurons that innervate the lower limbs.
4
Q
Sacral part:
A
- Conus medullaris: the end of the spinal cord.
5
Q
Cauda Equina
↓ ↓
Caudal Horse
A
- A collection of nerve roots(horse tail).
- Filum terminale: pia mater anchor for the conus medullaris (stabilization)
6
Q
Spinal Nerve Distribution:
Cervical (7) plexus……..
A
- Formed by anterior rami of C1-C4 (forms a plexus)
- Contains PHRENIC NERVE (INNERVATES THE DIAPHRAGM)
7
Q
Spinal nerve distribution:
Brachial plexus
A
- Formed by the anterior rami of C5-T1.
- Posterior cord:
axillary nerve (innervates the deltoid and Teres minor muscles)
AND
radial nerve (innervates the posterior arm and forearm muscles - Lateral cord: branches ➞ musculocutaneous nerve: innervates the biceps brachii and brachioradialis muscles
- Medial cord:ulnar nerve (innervates some of the anterior… pause ask prof
