1. There are 8 cervical spinal nerves. (One comes from occipital)
2. Cervical enlargement. (Goes down to arms and legs): contains neurons that innervate the upper limbs

A

1. 12 thoracic nerves (&vertebrae)
Thoracic nerves ➞ innervate the chest

  1. 5 Lumbar nerves. (5pm ➞light dinner)
  2. Lumbosacral enlargement: contains neurons that innervate the lower limbs.

  1. Conus medullaris: the end of the spinal cord.

  2. Filum terminale: pia mater anchor for the conus medullaris (stabilization)

  1. Formed by anterior rami of C1-C4 (forms a plexus)
  2. Contains PHRENIC NERVE (INNERVATES THE DIAPHRAGM)

Spinal nerve distribution:
Brachial plexus

A
  1. Formed by the anterior rami of C5-T1.
  2. Posterior cord:
    axillary nerve (innervates the deltoid and Teres minor muscles)
    AND
    radial nerve (innervates the posterior arm and forearm muscles
  3. Lateral cord: branches ➞ musculocutaneous nerve: innervates the biceps brachii and brachioradialis muscles
