Peripheral Nerves, Lower limb Flashcards
Which spinal route does the Lumbar Plexus Start at?
L1-L4
Which muscle does it sit within and pierce through?
Psoas Major
which muscle groups does the Femoral Nerve innovate?
hip flexors and knee extensors
Where does the femoral nerve start and finish?
starts at psoas major and travels to medial leg finishing at the foot.
Which muscles do
the Obturator nerve innovate?
The adductors of the thigh.
What is the Lumbosacral Trunk?
forms a connection between the lumbar and sacral plexus, it is part of the sciatic nerve
What are two outstanding features of the Sciatic Nerve?
It is the longest nerve in the body. It can be considered 2 separate nerves within 1 sheath eg Tibia and common peroneal.
Which spinal nerve root does the sciatic nerve originate from?
L4-S3
Which Muscles do the sciatic nerve innovate?
Hamstrings and part of the adductor Magnus
Where does the Tibial Nerve originate from?
L4-S3
Which nerves does the Tibial nerve split into?
Medial and lateral plantar nerves
Which muscles does the Tibial Nerve innovate?
Popliteus, Tiabialis Post, Flex. Dig Longus, Flex hallucis longus, plantaris, soleus, Gastroc.
A: What is a dysfunction of the tibial nerve?
B: what are the symptoms of this?
A:Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome
B:Pain, Parathesia, sole of foot and ankle
Where does the common peroneal nerve originate from?
L4-S2
A: What are the 2 main branches of the common peroneal nerve and
B: what muscles do they innovate?
A: Superficial Peroneal brach and Deep peroneal Branch.
A: superficial - peroneus longus, peroneus brevis
Deep - dorsiflexors of foot, tib ant, ext hallucis longus, ext dig longus, peroneus tertius
