Difference between arterial, venous, and neuropathic ulcers?

A

Arterial

  • Pain – intermittent claudication to sharp
  • Pulse – diminished or absent
  • Skin – dry shiny
  • Ulcer – punched out
  • Edema – not really

Venous

  • Pain – cramping acheing
  • Pulse – present
  • Skin – reddish, blue, oedematous
  • Ulcer – sloughy, lots of granulation tissue
  • Edema – yes
