Patient is drinking 7 times a week, 75cl 12% of red wine. Work out the units and show your workings? (3m) You can work out how many units there are in any drink by multiplying the total volume of a drink (in ml) by its ABV (measured as a percentage) and dividing the result by 1,000.
0.12 x 75 = 9 units x 7 times a week = 63 units
What are the government guidelines for drinking alcohol? (2-3m)
- Maximum recommended number of units per week is 14 units for male and females
- Recommended not to binge drink all units at once,
- To spread drinking over 3 or more days if you regularly drink if you drink as much as 14 units/week
- If you want to cut down try having several drink free days each week
