Periodicity Flashcards
How are elements arranged in periodic table
In order of increasing atomic number.
Periodicity
A repeating pattern of physical and chemical properties.
1st Ionisation Energy
The energy needed to remove one mole of electrons from one mole of atoms in the gaseous state.
Ionic radius across a period: Positive ions
Smaller than their atoms
-Same # of protons attracting fewer electrons = stronger attractions and stronger ionisation energy.
Ionic radius across a period: Negative ions
Bigger than their atoms
-Same # if protons attracting more electrons = weaker attraction and weaker ionisation energy.
Electronegativity
The power of an atom to attract the pair of electrons in a covalent bond.
