What is the trend going down group 1

A
  • Reactivity increases as atomic size increases, increasing the distance between valence electron and
    the attractive force of nucleus. Hence valence electron is easily lost to form a cation.
  • Melting points decreases as ionic size increases, increasing the distance between delocalised electrons and the attractive force of nucleus, decreasing the strength of the electrostatic forces of attraction, less energy needed to overcome. Hence melting point decreases down the group.
