Periodic Table Flashcards
Alkaline Earth Metals
2 electrons outermost shell. group 2 reactive but slower than group 1, less heat produced
Lanthanides
Group does does not fit typical periodic table type metals are silvery white tarnish on contact with air
Actinides
Only thorium and uranium exist naturally on earth radioactive unstable nucleus in atom
Transition Metals
Hard but malleable shiny, good conductivity examples Gold (Au)
Post Transition Metals
Moving towards non-metal world-softer conduct poorly below the staircase
Metalloids
Form the staircase Moving to non-metals sei conductors, poor metals
Non-metals
Above the staircase (blue colour on table). reactive with metals
Halogens
Group 7 chemically reactive pair up with alkali metals to make salts (sodium and chlorine).
Noble Gases
Inert gases group 8. colorless, odorless non-reactive by nature calming effect
