A

LAVOISIER
- 1789, first version of the periodic table is created
- examined physical and chemical properties + classified substances into four groups/elements: metals, non-metals, gases, and earths (later shown to be compounds)

Q

how about the second guy

A

DOBEREINER
- 1829, showed chemical similarities of groups of three elements - triads
- triads were arranged in terms of atomic weight

Q

and the third????

A

NEWLANDS
- created the first acceptable periodic table
- arranged elements in tabular form in order of increasing atomic weight + left spaces for
undiscovered elements
- consisted of 8 columns and 7 rows with some elements occupying the same position

what about the man the myth the legend himself (not mickey g)

A

MENDELEEV
- 1869, Mendeleev created a more advanced version of the periodic table;
- grouped elements according to atomic mass horizontally, and vertically based on similar chemical properties
- believed in the periodicity (repetition) of the properties of elements

Q

nevermind theres another guy

A

MOSELEY
- 1913, he recognized a fundamental quantity which increased in regular steps from one element to the next
- this fundamental quantity is the atomic number
- he expressed a NEW periodic law – “the properties of elements vary periodically with their atomic masses”
