Hominid
An early ancestor of humans.
Paleolithic
The Old Stone Age lasting from approximately 2 million B.C.E. to 10,000 B.C.E.
Forager
Early people who support themselves by hunting and gathering.
Kinship Group
Extended families and clans connected by family obligations.
Great Ice Age
Time period that occurred between 2 million B.C.E. and and 8,000 B.C.E. As a result of climate shifts, large num-bers of new species evolved during this period, also called the Pleistocene epoch.
Homo Sapiens
A species of the creatures Hominid who have larger brains and to which humans belong, dependent of language and usage of tools.
Neanderthals
A group of larger brained hominids who existed from 200,000 B.C.E. - 30,000 B.C.E.
Neolithic
(10,000B.C.E. - 3,000 B.C.E.) The development of agriculture and the domestication of animals as a food source. This led to the development of permanent settlements and the start of civilization.
Pastoral Nomads
Groups of herders who move with their animals from place to place in search of pasture and water.
Patriarchal
A family or society in which the male is the dominant figure.
Matriarchal
A family or society in which the mother is supreme in the clan/family.
