Roosevelt’s “Square Deal”

A government act to get rid of trusts and monopolies.
Socialist Party of America
A government party created in 1901 that incorporated the ideals of the democratic and socialist labor party.

The progressive party.

An organization that worked toward the improved representation of colored people
Industrial Workers of the World
A big labor union formed in 1905 in chicago
New Nationalism
New nationalism was Teddy Roosevelt’s plan if he got reelected to office in 1912.
Wilson’s “New Freedom”
Woodrew wilson’s book on the spirit of politics of the time.
Children’s Bureau
Worked towards increasing the rights of children with labor laws.
Imperialism
A policy in which a country seeks to show dominance over other countries through means of political, economical, social, or even religious means.

A conference held between America and Panama to discuss common defense and juridical matters.
Jingoism
Extreme patriotism.
Yellow Journalism
A type of newspaper practice that worked towards making more interesting news even if it meant stretching the facts or even straight up lying about events that occured.
Rough Riders
A nickname given to the 1st united states volunteer cavalry
Spanish-American War
Conflict between the united states and spain that ended spanish colonial rule in the americas and resulted in US acquisition of territories in the western pacific and latin america
Open Door Policy (China)
A statement of principles initiated by the united states in 1899 and 1900
Boxer Rebellion
An uprising against foreigners that occurred in China about 1900, begun by peasants by eventually supported by the government
Russo-Japanese War
Military conflict in which a victorious japan forced Russia to abandon its expansionist policy in East Asia, thereby becoming the first Asian power in modern times to defeat a European power

A group of us naval ships that traveled around the world from december 1907 to february 1909
Lusitania
A swift moving british cruise liner traveling from new york to liverpool
Sussex
A pledge by the German government to not sink ships without warning and to try and allow those on board to escape
Propaganda
Propaganda could be used to arouse hatred of the foe, warn of the consequences of defeat and idealize one’s own war aims in order to mobilize a nation maintain its morale and make it fight to the end
