Q

List and explain one application of total internal reflection

A

Dimonds use index of reflection, they need to be cut exactly at a 45 degree angle. a lot of total internal reflection happens at once causing sparkels.

Q

List the two major Laws of Reflection

A

Q

The following 4 diagrams represent various wavelengths of the electromagnetic spectrum. Using the key terms WAVELENGTH, FREQUENCY, and ENERGY, compare WAVE B and WAVE D

A

The wavelength of B is much longer then the wavelenth of wave D, meaning that it has less energy. The frequency of wave length D is higher because there are more waves/sec in Wave D than in wave B.

Q

List and explain 1 technology/application that uses concave mirrors/surfaces
*
1.5/2

A

The headlights of cars use concave mirrors to create light that travels parallel and long distance. This is because concave mirrors

When the bulb of headlight is placed at focus of concave mirror, it allows the light to spread out to infinity (longer distances) and at infinity they are approximately parallel. Hence, concave mirrors are used in the headlights of vehicles.

17
Q

List and explain 1 technology/application that uses convex mirrors/surfaces

A

The rearview mirrors use convex mirrors to make virtual images that are smaller. virtual, full size diminished image of distant objects with a wider field of view.
