Perio Plastic Sx#3_04042022 Flashcards
GTR
A surgical procedure with the goal of achieving new bone, cementum and PDL attachment to a perio. diseased tooth using barrier membranes to provide space maintenance, epithelial exclusion and wound stabilization
GBR
A surgical procedure with the goal of augmenting bone volume in edentulous or peri-implant areas using barrier membranes in conjunction with bone grafting materials or biologics
Xenograft
A hard or soft tissue graft from a donor species that is different from teh recipient species
Autograft
Hard or soft tissue graft that is transferred from a recipient to a donor site within the same individual
ADM
An allogenic collagen material that has been treated to remove all cells to provide a matrix to support tissue regeneration and re-vascularization ultimately being transformed into host tissue. ADM is indicated for mucogingival regenerative procedures
Tissue Engineering
A technique that utilizes a combination of cells, signaling molecules and scaffolds in an effort to regenerate tissues thereby restoring biological function and structure
What is one of the 1st published GTR studies?
Nyman et al. 1982:
M&M: Surgical bony defects created and covered by ePTFE membranes to exclude epith. and CT.
Results: Healing by Regeneration –> new cementum and inserting PDL fibers.
However, the coronal portion near the ePTFE was always CT attachment (“adhesion”)
What are the treatment option for root coverage procedures?
