Perio MT 1 Flashcards
what parts of the gingiva are keratinized?
- Attached Gingiva and 2. Free Gingival Margin
what is another term for “marginal gingiva”?
Gingival Sulcus
Where does probe penetrate to in health?
Probe penetrates to free gingival groove
Where does probe penetrate to in disease?
Past JE- into CT
What determines probe angulation in posterior teeth?
Position & dimensions of contact area b/t adj teeth.
What is analogous to JE during tooth eruption?
Reduced Enamel Epithelium
Describe formation of JE after tooth eruption?
After tooth eruption the cells of the oral epithelium (oe) possess the ability to differentiate into cells of the JE.
Where is JE widest on a tooth?
Widest in coronal portion (15-20 cells)
Where is JE narrowest on a tooth?
narrowest in the cervical portion (3-4 cells)
Which has more rapid of turnover, JE or DE?
JE has more rapid turnover.
approx. how long is the JE?
—1mm
Why does JE move apically?
- b/c of passive eruption . b/c of attachment loss
How are periodontitis & mvmt of JE related?
Periodontitis occurs when JE migrates apically down the root surface
What kind of JE is required for pocket formation ?
viable JE is required for pocket formation
Is periodontitis based on probe depth.2-3 mm?
no periodontitis is based on attachment loss, not probe depth.
