PeriGlacial landforms Flashcards
What is Patterned ground?
Ground showing a pattern of stones, fissures, and vegetation, typically forming polygons, rings, or stripes caused by repeated freezing and thawing.
What are Ice wedges?
Ice wedges are cracks within the ground filled with frozen ice or water.
What are Pingos?
A dome-shaped mound consisting of a layer of soil over a large core of ice, occurring in permafrost areas.
What is a Solifluction lobe?
Sediments form a tongue-shaped feature due to different downhill flow rates.
What are Terracettes?
Ridges of soil that has repeatedly been saturated and unsaturated leading to slow downhill movement.
What is Thermokarst?
Hollows produced by the selective melting of permafrost.
