What are the infectious causes of pericarditis? (3)

A

Viral: enteroviruses (Cox B), EBV, HIV
Bacterial: TB
Fungal: rare, in immunocompromised

Autoimmune: SLE, RF, RA
Metastatic cancer
Iatrogenic: PCI, pacemaker

A
Severe pleuritic, sharp chest pain
Dyspnoea
Hiccups (phrenic nerve involvement)
Fever
Tachycardia

A

Beck’s triad

  • low BP
  • rising JVP
  • muffled SS1 & S2 heart sounds

How would you treat pericarditis? (4)

A

NSAIDs/ aspirin (+PPI)
Colchicine
Oral steroids
Treat underlying cause eg abx if bacterial
