(Periapical Technique Errors) Receptor Placement Problems Flashcards
What is a correct receptor placement image show?
Shows the entire tooth, including the apex and surrounding structures.
What does an incorrect receptor placement image show?
inadequate coverage of the apical regions, or a dropped receptor corner.
Absence of Apical Structures
Appearance: no apices are seen
Cause: The receptor was not positioned in the patient’s mouth to cover the apical regions of teeth. This error occurs with both paralleling and bisecting technique.
Correction: Make certain that no more than one eighth of an inch of the receptor edge extends beyond the incisal- occlusal surfaces of teeth.
Dropped Receptor Corner
Appearance: the occlusal plane appears tipped or tilted
Cause: The edge of the receptor was not placed parallel to the incisal- occlusal surfaces of teeth.
Correction: Make certain that the edge of the receptor is placed parallel to the incisal-occlusal surfaces of teeth as the patient bites is or her teeth together.
