What is peri-implant disease?
A collective term for inflammatory reactions around an implant encompassing peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis
What is peri-implant mucositis?
A reversible inflammatory change of the peri-implant soft tissue without bone loss
What is peri-implantitis?
An inflammatory process around osseointegrated implants in function affecting the mucosa and resulting in the loss of supporting bone around the implant
How is cement associated with peri-implantitis?
Once microorganisms irreversibly attach to cement, they are resistant to antimicrobial agents and host defences
Why is there less resistance when probing around an implant?
There is no attachment of the junctional epithelium
What is monitored in diabetics to assess the control of disease?
HB I Ac tests are completed annually
