Q

Perfusion (definition)

A

A normal physiologic process that requires the heart to generate sufficient cardiac output to transport blood through patent blood vessels for distribution in the tissues throughout the body.

Q

optimal perfusion

A
perfect function
vessels are open
heart is pumping
good skin color
good capillary refill
pulse is present

Q

impaired perfusion

A

septic and in shock
pt may be having a common cold
plaque developed in vessels (pt may be a smoker), this can cause BP to increase

Q

central perfusion

A

mechanisms for food delivery
generated by cardiac output
propels blood to all organs and their tissues
returns blood back to the heart (central perfusion, when impaired, affects the entire body)

Q

local perfusion or tissue perfusion

A

volume of blood that flows through target tissues
supplied by blood flowing from arteries to capillaries
allows for delivery of O2, fluid, and nutrients
removal of cellular waste products
