Ex: an aromatic room, aromatic herbs, aromatic flowers.
- The plant is strongly aromatic.
Put somebody on the spot (idiom)
-To make somebody feel uncomfortable or embarrassed by asking them a difficult question.
Ex: the interviewer’s questions really put him on the spot.

Wear off ( pheasal verb)
To gradually disappear or stop
Ex: the effect of the drug will soon wear off.

Not very obvious or easy to notice
subtle colours, subtle flavours, smells…
Ex: there are subtle differences between the two versions.
Waft ( v)
To move, or make something move, gently through the air.

Ex: the scent of flowers was wafted along by the breeze.
Whiff (n)
[Usually singular]
Whiff (of something) a smell, especially one that you only smell for a short time
Ex: a whiff of wood scent.
He caught a whiff of perfume.
