Performance Flashcards
Performance Group A
• “capable of continuing a flight in IMC after failure of a critical engine at speed V1 & proceeding to a suitable aerodrome & landing’
Runway
• Defined rectangular area for take off & landing run of aircraft
Stopway
Clear area immediately beyond runway & at least as wide capable of supporting aircraft for braking
Clearway
• Clear area immediately beyond runway over which aircraft may fly at height of 35ft
Runway distance
is known as TORA / Take off run available
Accelerate stop distance
• Is the combined distance of runway and stop-way
TODA
• is the runway + the clearway
A balanced field
• is when the TODA is EQUAL to the ASDA
ASDA is calculated using
• Distance to accelerate to V1 – 1 sec recognition – 2 sec transition phase – distance to bring aircraft to a stop
What is the relationship between TORA & TODA?
- TORA – Useable length of the runway, it DOES NOT take into account of any clearway or stopway.
- TODA – Useable length of the runway PLUS any declared certified clearway.
Take off run required
Take off distance required
• The distance required to accelerate to V1 – engine fail – continue climb to 35 ft
TOR 1 Eng. inoperative
Or
• 115% of distance to reach 35ft point no engine failure
Whichever is greater
TOR All engines
VLOF
• is limited by max tyre speed / VMBE(maximum braking energy)
State the climb segments
• 1st segment
35 ft to gear retracted (+ve roc)
State the climb segments
• 2nd segment
End of 1st segment to 400 ft or higher flap retract height; at V2 (2.4% climb gradient req’d)
