Perfect tense irregular Flashcards
Verbs with inseparable prefixes like “be-“, “zer-“, “er-“, “ent-“, “ver-“, etc. form the past participle without “ge-“ at the beginning.
By the way: Verbs with the ending “-ieren” also form the past participle without “ge-“ and always end in “-t”.
With separable verbs, the past participle is formed this way: separable prefix (ab-/an-/auf-/aus-/ein-/…) + “ge-“ + verb root + “-t”/”-en”: auf-ge-räum-t
The present perfect is usually made from the auxiliary verb haben and the past participle. However, certain verbs are not used with haben, but with sein.
Verbs that form the present perfect with sein are
verbs that express movement in a particular direction or a change of location, e.g. gehen, fahren, fliegen, schwimmen and reisen.
