The perfect tense is a
Past tense
We use the perfect tense to say
What you did or have done
To form the perfect tense of most verbs you need:
- Part of the verb avoir(to have)
- A past participle eg joué , regardé-played/ watched

He/she/one has
Il/elle/on a
We have
Nous avons
You plural have
Vous avez
They have
Ils/elles ont
The past participles of er verbs
Remover er ending and replace with é
The past participles of ir verbs
Remove the ir ending and replace with I
The past participles of re verbs
Remove re ending and replace with u
Irregular verbs in the perfect tense
Boire(to drink) eg j’ai bu
Voir (to see) eg j’ai vu
Faire(to do/make) eg j’ai fait
Prendre (to make) eg j’ai pris
Sometimes we use ETRE instead of
AVOIR IN THE PERFECT TENSE
Je -etre
Je suis
Tu- etre
Tu es
Il/elle/on -etre
Il/elle/on est
Nous-etre
Nous sommes
Vous- etre
Vous êtes
Ils/elles -etre
Ils/elles sont
Common verbs that use ETRE instead of AVOIR. (Verbs that use etre also must have an extra E if they are feminine or/and an extra S if they are plural)
Aller- to go eg Je suis allé(e)s
Arriver-to arrive eg Je suis arrivé(e)s
Partir- to leave eg je suis parti(e)s
Entrer-to go in - je suis entré (e)s
Rentrer-to return - je suis rentré (e)s
Sortir-to go out- je suis sorti(e)s
Rester-to stay- je suis resté (e) s
Tomber- to fall - tombé (e)s
