Q

How can we think about timbre of percussion? [OTL 1]

A

Try to match it with the instrument we’re accenting if we want it to blend more.

This will prevent it from taking over.

E.g. low wood blocks with French Horn

Q

Do decorations have to be part of the line? [OTL 1]

A

No.

They can be in the middle ground or foreground. If behind the line, they can overlap with it.

For example, they can be a unison, or an overtone octave.

Q

What’s a turn? [OTL 1]

A

A turn can goes a step up, then a step down, then a step down, then a step back to the original note.

Or vice versa, if it starts going down, it then takes two steps up, then a down.
