Perception Flashcards
1
Q
Name three things that perception allows an individual to do
A
- segregate objects from one and other from their background
- to judge how near or far various objects are situated from a person
- to recognise different objects
2
Q
Give six visual clues that enable the eye to distinguish the distance of objects
A
- relative size
- superimposition
- relative height in a horizontal field
- texture gradient
- linear perspective
3
Q
Define ‘binocular disparity’
A
Each eye looks at an object font a slightly different position relative to the other eye. Therefore a slight disparity occurs between the images of the same objects formed by the two eyes
4
Q
What is perceptual constancy?
A
A persons visual perception of their surroundings remains stable despite the changing images landing on their retinas as they move their eyes or body around
5
Q
What two factors make up perceptual constancy?
A
- shape constancy
- size constancy
