Perception Flashcards
Size constancy
Interprets objects as always being same size
Perception
Brain takes sensations and interprets them.
Brightness constancy
Person perceive brightness same when light conditions change.
Shape constancy
Person perceives and objects as the same shape when conditions change.
Figure-ground
Perceive objects or figures existing in background.
Proximity
Close or nearness of objects
Similarity
Things that look similar as being part of same group.
Closure
Incomplete figures
Continuity
Continuous pattern rather than broken up pattern.
Contiguity
Common region. Related.
Depth perception
World as 3D
Monocular cues
Depth based on one eye
Relative size
2 objects similar in size cast 1 smaller image to be further away.
Interposition
Overlap. Block other objects tend to precieve closer.
Relative height
Precieve objects higher in field vision further away than ones lower.
Motion parallax
Close objects appear quickly than ones further away slower.
Texture gradient
Further away less detail.
Arial
Atmospheric. Further away more hazy it appears
Accommodate
Thickness of lenses tell distance and depth.
Linear perc.
Parallel lines converge in distance.
Light and shadow
Nearby objects reflect light make inch dimmer objects seem further away.
Binocular cues
Precieve depth with 2 eyes
Binocular disparity
Images from 2 eyes differ
Convergence
Closer greater convergence.
