According to ESEMeD, the first major multicentre European psychiatric epidemiological study conducted as a part of World Mental health survey initiative of WHO, only one-third of identified cases have consulted their general practitioner in preceding 12 months while 21% cases have seen a psychiatrist. Nearly one-third of those who sought help, have never seen any mental health professional.
