A

Economic activities are of two types - market and non- market activities. Market activities - Activities that include remuneration to anyone who performs i.e. activity performed for money or profit. These include production of goods and services including government services.
Non Market activities - activities performed for self consumption. These activities focus on meeting needs or interests without the primary goal of making money.

  • Education and skill are the major determinants for the earning of an individual.
  • Education opens new horizon, provide new aspirations and develops values of life.
  • Education also contributes towards the growth of the society.
  • Education not only increases personal income but an educated population increases the national income.
  • Education also increases the efficiency of governance.

-Literacy is not only a right but is also needed if the citizens are to perform their duties properly.

Steps taken by the govt to promote education in India.

A
  • Navodaya Vidyalayas have been set up in each district to provide quality education
  • Vocational streams have been developed to equip a large number of high school students with occupations related to knowledge and skills,
  • Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan has been launched to provide elementary education to all children in the age group 6-14 years by 2010.
  • Bridge courses and back to school camps have been set up.
  • Mid-day meal scheme has been implemented to encourage attendance and retention of children. It also aims at providing nutritional status to children.
