- structure of the mind
- development theory of personality - three subsections of personality; ID, superego, ego.
Unconscious mind:
- ID; instinctive, contains sexual and aggressive drives and hidden memories e.g. I need to do that right now. Consists of inherited traits and is usually stubborn as it responds to pleasure only. operates in unconscious part of the mind so is not influenced by environmental factors.
- Superego; operates as a moral consciounce. develops around the age of 3-5 years.
- Ego; mediates between the two. Direct influence from the external world.
