What is balanitis?
Acute inflammation of the foreskin and glans
Cause of balanitis?
strep, staph, candida
RF for balanitis?
DM, kids with tight foreskin
Rx for balanitis?
Hygeine advice, abx, circumcision
WHat is phimosis?
Foreskin occludes the meatus
How do children present with phimosis and how do we manage?
Recurrant balanitis and balooning
retraction, steroid cream, circumcision
Adults with balanitis?
Dysparaeunia, infection
Mx: circumcision
What is phimosis associatedd with in adults?
B xerotica obliterans: thickening gives phimosis and meatal narrowing
What is paraphimosis?
tight foreskin is retracted and becomes irreplaceable. decreased venous return gives oedema and swelling of the glans. rarely causes glans ischaemia
Causes of paraphimosis
catheterisation, masturbation,. intercourse
Mx of paraphimoses:
manual reduction with ice and lignocaine
May require glans aspiration or dorsal split
What are hyrdrospadias?
developmental abnormalitiy of position of urethral opening, will be on ventral surface
Risk factors for penile cancer?
HPV, infection, chronic irritation
Presentation of penile Ca?
chronic fungating ulcer, bloody/purulent discharge, 50% have nodes at presentation
Mx of penile Ca?
Medical: early growths, DXT and irridium wires
Surgical: amputation if urethral involvement and node dissection
