pelvis special tests Flashcards
test for sacroiliac lesions/ sprain of posterior sacroiliac ligaments
Approximation test (transverse posterior stress test, compression)
+: increased feeling of pressure in SI joints
test for sprain of the anterior sacroiliac ligaments
Gapping test
FABER (Patrick’s)
test the integrity of posterior sacroiliac ligaments
Prone Gapping test (Hibb’s test)
+: P/ excessive movement
assess the sacrotuberous ligament
Sacroiliac Rocking test (knee-to-shoulder, sacrotuberous lig stress test)
+: P in SI joint
assess stability of posterior sacroiliac ligaments
Squish test
+: P as posterior SI ligs are stretched, anterior SI compressed
assess for tight Rec Fem, upper lumbar joint lesion, upper spine nerve root lesion or hypomobile Si joint
Prone knee bending test (Nachlas test)
+: P
test for lesions in structures (symphysis pubis or SI joint) that have pain
Flamingo test/ maneuver
+: P in symphysis pubis/ SIJ
assess for an ipsilateral SI joint lesion (lig damage, joint misalignment), hip pathology, L4 nerve root lesion
Gaenslen’s test
+: P reproduced on test side
assess if SI joint is hypomobile or “blocked”
Gillet test (sacral flexion, stork standing, stork)
+: SI joint on side that knee is flexed move minimally or up (normal side, PSIS moves down)
assess for abnormality in torsion movement at SI joint
Piedallu’s sign
+: if lower PSIS becomes the higher one on forward flexion
assess for functional leg length difference
Supine-to-sit test (long sitting)
+: if one legs moves farther than the other
assess for pathology in the anterior SI ligaments
Yeoman’s test
+: P localized to SI joint
test for sciatic nerve compression by piriformis
Piriformis test (FAIR)
Pace abduction test
+: P in glutes
assess for weakness/ instability of gluteus medius
Trendelenburg test
+: if pelvis on side of non-stance leg falls
