Pelvis, hip, and thigh Flashcards
PSIS location
Lateral to L4-5
Iliac crest location
Top of hip (ilium)
Ischial tuberosity location
Inferior aspect of ischium
Greater trochanter location
Top of femur (lateral thigh)
ASIS and AIIS location
ASIS= anterior iliac crest- sartorius attachment
AIIS= inferior to ASIS & above acetabulum- rectus femoris attachment
Pubic symphysis and tubercle location
Pubic symphysis= joins left and right superior pubic rami (midline of the body)- pubic ligaments attach
Tubercle= bony projection lateral to pubic symphysis- medial inguinal ligament
Femur head location
Proximal femur aka acetabulum & lateral/superior to greater trochanter
Sciatic notch (borders and contents)
At the posterior border of the ilium. Passage of structures from pelvis to glutes and below
Hamstring muscle group and origin
Biceps femoris short head: Origin lateral femur & inserts lateral fibula head
Biceps femoris long head: Origin ischial tuberosity & inserts lateral fibula head
Semitendinosus: Origin medial tendon of the long head of biceps femoris/ischial tuberosity & inserts medial surface of the tibia
Semimembranosus: Origin lateral aspect of the ischial tuberosity & inserts posteromedial tibia
Ischial bursa site
Between ischial tuberosity and glute max
Sacrotuberous ligament
The shape of a fan located in the posterior pelvis (both sides) and connects the sacrum to the iliac tuberosities
Gluteal muscle group
Gluteus maximus: Origin from iliac crest down & inserts gluteal tuberosity/crest & ITB
Gluteus medius: Origin lateral ilium & inserts posterolateral superior greater trochanter
Gluteus minimus: Origin external ilium (anterior & inferior gluteal lines) & inserts anterolateral greater trochanter
TFL & ITB
TFL: Origin ASIS & inserts ITB
ITB: Origin gluteus maximus/TFL & inserts tibial tubercle
Trochanteric bursa site
Lateral hip- above abductors & below ITB
Femoral triangle (borders and contents)
Medial proximal thigh- passage of blood vessels & nerves
