Pelvic CT Flashcards
WHen do you use a KUB?
To look at kidneys, ureters, and bladder
What might you find when using a KUB?
renal calculi, air in abdomen, bowel obstruction, gallstones, trauma to pelvis
What is an archaic term for a plain formal supine radiograph of the abdomen?
KUB
WHat is an IV urogram?
it is a test where you put contrast medium into the kidneys to look for hydronephrosis (looks at kidneys, bladder, ureter)
If you are looking at a slide and see a large concentration of contrast medium in the right pelvis, what is this most likely?
hydronephrosis due to ureteral obstruction
When you see the wings of the uterus (broad ligament) then what part of the intestines are you seeing on the right side of the body?
The ascending colon
When you see the pubic symphisis, which pubic bone is going to be prominent?
the ischium
When will you see an anal canal rather than a rectum?
when you see the penis in a male
or the clitoris in the female
How do you know if you are lookin at the prostate gland or the bulb of the penis?
if you can see the penis, then you are looking at the bulb of the penis
If you see a tag after the branching of the external and internal iliacs and it looks as if it is the external iliac then what is the vessel?
it is the femoral artery
Once the horns turn into the seashell on the CT what are we seeing?
anterior-> pubis bone
circular -> femur
Posterior-> ischium
(horns are the illium)
After the seashell explodes, what do we see?
ischium at bottom
pubis at top
femur laterally positioned
What do you call the bones branching toward the penis or clitoris?
inferior pubic ramus
How do you know you are looking at the bladder versus the prostate?
If you see a pubic symphysis then you see a prostate!
Also the prostate is posterior to the pubic symphysis where the bladder is between them
When do you see the obterator externus muscle?
when the ischium and the femur are separate and not touching
