Pelvic Cavity Flashcards
Ureter vasculature
Inferior vesical & uterine vessels supply the
ureters in the pelvic region.
It also receives blood from renal, gonadal, common iliac, internal iliac, & superior vesical arteries.
Ureter lymph drainage
Lymph drains into the lumbar, common iliac, external iliac & internal iliac lymph nodes.
Ureter innervation
autonomic innervation is from the renal, aortic, superior/inferior hypogastric plexuses.
Bladder vasculature
superior vesical (M/F), inferior vesical (M) & vaginal (F)
Bladder lymph
Lymph drains to the external iliac (superior part) & internal iliac lymph nodes (inferior part) (M/F)
Bladder innervation
Sympathetic – contracts internal urethral sphincter during ejaculation
• Hypogastric plexuses
Parasympathetic – motor to detrusor muscle and inhibitory to the internal sphincter of males
• Pelvic splanchnic
• Inferior hypogastric plexus Visceral sensory
• Inferior parts – follow parasympathetic fibers
• Superior parts – follow sympathetic fibers
Female urethra vasculature
internal pudendal & vaginal arteries.
Male urethra vasculature
prostatic branches of the inferior vesical & middle rectal (intramural part & prostatic); dorsal artery of the penis (intermediate & spongy)
Female urethra lymph drainage
Lymph drains mainly to the sacral & internal iliac lymph nodes. A few vessels drain to the superficial/deep inguinal lymph nodes.
Male urethra lymph drainage
Lymph drainage is to the internal iliac (intramural, some prostatic & intermediate parts), external iliac (some prostatic & proximal spongy part) & deep inguinal lymph nodes (distal spongy part).
Female urethra innervation
Innervation: nerves arise from the vesical nerve plexus and the pudendal nerve. Visceral afferents from most of the urethra run in the pelvic splanchnic nerves, but the termination receives somatic afferents from the pudendal nerve.
Male urethra innervation
autonomic nerves arise from the prostatic nerve plexus (prostate & intermediate parts) as well as the dorsal nerve of the penis (spongy part).
ductus (vas) deferens vasculature
artery of the ductus (vas) deferens usually branches off the superior vesical artery but it may also come from the inferior vesical artery.
ductus deferens lymph drainage
Lymph drainage is to the external iliac lymph nodes.
Ductus deferens innervation
autonomic nerves composed mainly of sympathetic fibers derived from the larger pelvic plexus.
