peer review def & strengths
- experts check work before it’s published to ensure it’s high quality, accurate & contributes to research field
- ensure that only high quality research is funded, dissamated, becomes available as a body of scientific evidence & is used to form applications
- prevents scientific fraud & integreity of scientific research being damaged by inaccurate info
peer review weaknesses
- if anonymity isn’t mantained, experts with conflict of interest may not approve research 2 further their career
- can contribute to file drawer effect as only statisically significant research is published so studies which contradict existing understanding may be overlooked or not published
format for research report (title, abstract, appendices, table of contents, discussions & references)
TITLE - relevant, clear & informatives
ABSTRACT - summary which outlines background research, aims, method, procedure & results
APPENDICES - numbered, at end of paper & contains info considered to distracting/confusing to be in main body (eg: raw data, full instructions given to ps)
TABLE CONTENTS - optional, used alongside pg. no
DISCUSSION - explains meaning of results
REFERENCES - gives full details of refs cited in report
format for research report (aims, hypothesis, method, procedure, findings)
AIM - statement of what researcher intends to find out
HYPOTHESIS - testable prediction about what rel between variables will be, should inc. operationalisation
METHOD - should be clear & outline exp design, procedure, controls & ethics
PROCEDURE - step by step instructions about how to conduct study so other can replicate it
FINDINGS - presentation of data found (eg: in graph)
