What is the purpose of well-child visits/preventive pediatric health care?
Prevention- immunizations, nutrition, safety
Tracking growth and development
Opportunity for parents to express concerns/ask questions
Opportunity for physician to perform and address: abnormal physical exam findings, abnormal routine screening findings

If seeing a new baby, what should you also ask?
How mom is doing– post-partum depression
What are some important additions in a pediatric history for every patient less than 5 years old?
Pregnancy history
What is included in a pregnancy history?
Medications, complications, prenatal care
What is included in a delivery/perinatal history?
Complications
Need for resuscitation/oxygen/NICU
Apgar score if known
What is included in a nursery/postnatal history?
NICU history
Well baby nursery history
Parent may know if they passed their oxygen saturation test, done prior to DC on all babies. Screen for possible critical congenital heart defect.
What is included in a developmental history?
One of the big differences from an adult encounter.
Discuss age appropriate milestones.
What should also be included in a pediatric PE?
Longitudinal assessment:
height, weight, BP, sexual maturity
