RSV
Respiratory syncytial virus
Treatment- symptomatic, nebulizer (Albuterol or Pulmicort), Hospitalization and O2 may be required in severe cases
Symptoms are runny nose, fever, nasal flaring/ retractions, cough
Strep
Streptococcus A
Treatment- Antibiotics, cool liquids
Symptoms are sore throat, rash, fever, cough, younger children will pull at ears
Hand foot and mouth
Coxsackievirus A16
Treatment is symptomatic. Treat with tylenol and motrin and hydration
Symptoms are sores that appear on hands feet and in and around the mouth
Ulcers may appear on tonsils if not presented outwardly
Mono
Epstein barr virus
Treatment is symptomatic using typenol and motrin and hydration
Ulcers may appear on tonsils. Tonsils will be swollen and inflamed. Fever, sore throat, body ache
Covid
SarsCov-19
Treatment is symptomatic using tylenol and motrin and hydration. Severe cases may require oxygen, albuterol, anticoagulants, etc.
Symptoms are cough, fever, runny nose, congestion, headache, blood clotting.
Impetigo
Streptococcus A or staphylococcus aureus
Treatment is antibiotics either topical or oral depending on the level of infection
Symptoms are crusted wound usually with yellow exudate
Ear infection (internal)
Otitis media
Treatment is antibiotics
Symptoms are pulling at ears in infants and older patients will complain bout ear pain but not painful to touch. can cause dizziness and vomiting
Ear infection (external)
Otitis externa
Treatment is antibiotics and eardrops
Symptoms are ears that are red and inflamed and painful to touch
Asthma
Caused by a variety of factors
Symptoms consist of wheezing, SOB, low O2 sat, sometimes patients are unable to talk due to throat inflammation
Exposure to allergens, smoke, perfumes, weather changes, etc. can trigger flare-ups
Treatment is done using albuterol, Pulmicort, Solu Medrol, O2
Tripod positioning may help alleviate symptoms along with relaxation techniques
Common cold
Rhinovirus
Treatment is symptomatic using tylenol, motrin, cough suppressors, and hot liquids
Symptoms are runny nose, fever, cough, congestion
Some illnesses are unidentifiable viral illnesses
Virus illnesses will have to be treated symptomatically and most go away on their own. A persistent or high fever may be a reason to bee seen in office or elsewhere
H pylori
Helicobacter pylori
Treatments are antibiotics and proton pump inhibitors to reduce acid production
Symptoms are pain in upper abdomen, bloating, nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, and dark colored stools
Flu
Influenzae
Treatments are symptomatic tylenol and motrin, fluids
Symptoms are runny nose, fever, body aches, and congestion
Molluscum contagiosum
Poxvirus
Treatments are usually not needed as bumps disappear on their own but in some cases skin scraping and freezing may be needed
Symptoms are small raised bumps on skin with dimpled centers. slowly spread through scratching the affected area
Plantar warts
Human papilloma virus
Treatments are freezing or curetting
Symptoms are raised nodules on the feet that are hard and grainy. can grow up to 1 inch if not treated
