Pectoral Region Flashcards
Roughly where does Pectoralis major originate and extend to?
Originates medially along the manibrium and sternum from the 1-6th rib. Extends to lateral clavicle and attaches to proximal humerus.
What muscles are involved in the pectoral region?
Pectoralis major.
Pectoralis minor.
Subclavious.
Serratus anterior.
What are the 2 heads of Pectoralis major called?
Clavicular and sternocostal head.
What action does pectoralis major perform?
Adduction and medial rotation of arm.
Clavicular head flexes humerus.
Sternocostal head extends humerus.
What is the nerve supply for pectoralis major, pectoralis minor, subclavious and serratus anterior?
Pec major- lateral and medial pectoral nerve.
Pec minor- medial pectoral nerve.
Subclavious- nerve to subclavious.
Serratus anterior- long thoracic nerve.
Roughly where is pectoralis minor found?
Anterior chest. 3-5th rib and across to coracoid process.
What is the role of pectoralis minor?
Stabilises the scapula.
Where is subclavious found?
Inferior to the clavicle. Extends from the manibrium to the acromium.
What is the role of subclavious?
Stabilises the clavicle and prevents dislocation.
What movement does serratus anterior permit?
Strong protractor of the scapula.
What are the spinal routes for the pectoral muscles?
Pec major- clavicular head is C5&6, sternocostal head is C7,8 & T1.
Pec minor- C8 & T1.
Subclavious- C5&6.
Long thoracic nerve- C5,6&7.
